Braiding
For turban after about a week of curing, garlic can be braided into bunches that are decorative and useful. Fully cured braids can be hung in the kitchen where the garlic is always within reach to be used to enhance culinary delights.
Some people prefer to braid when the garlic has cured for longer, in which case the leaves and stems may need to be dampened to create flexibility.
Braiding is not difficult and practice makes perfect. Our Co-op offers workshops in braiding so that when we sell braids through the Co-op they will be of uniform quality. To sell your braid through the Co-op you need to do the workshop.
There are many videos of garlic braiding on YouTube and other websites.
Generally braids look better if they have smaller bulbs at the top and bigger bulbs at the bottom.
We didn't have long stalks on our garlic, so we braided the leaves. Some garlic has long stalks. The long stalks can make a stunning braid, but in hard neck Turban they can be too stiff to braid and need wetting to make them pliable, or not braided but bunched.
